Covering more than 130 acres / 52 hectares, Fairgrounds Park offers visitors to St. Louis an array of recreational activities including fishing and swimming. The park also boasts tennis courts, a playground, softball and baseball fields and other sporting facilities. Interestingly, it is still possible to see the old bear pits of the zoological gardens, which once existed as part of the fairgrounds.

The historic Missouri Botanical Gardens feature a Japanese Garden, conservatories and the beautiful home of the garden's founder, Henry Shaw.
